JOB DESCRIPTION
PRINCIPLE PURPOSE OF ROLE
Lighthouse believes in the power of creativity to support your sense of self and wellbeing. We are excited to be rolling out a new school's project to support young people in Year 6 as they make the transition to secondary school.
The project will see a 5 week-long programme delivered in 6 primary schools from across Poole – using drama and creativity to support their sense of self and build confidence for the change ahead. Each session will look at building resilience, understanding emotion and will ultimately provide pupils with a toolkit to help support their transition to secondary school.
Each planned session should be 1.5 hrs and then this role, supported by the Schools Project Assistant, will deliver exciting and engaging activities for young people that will better prepare them for their transition to secondary school.
The Project Lead is key to the delivery of the project, and the fee per 5 session delivery blocks in each primary school includes planning time to help design and shape the programme within the agreed framework.
Planning creative sessions
- There will be 5 x 1.5hr sessions at 6 primary school with up to 20 students in each cohort. Pupils will be identified by their primary schools as most likely to benefit from these sessions.
- The topics to be covered across the 5 sessions are:
- Understanding your emotions
- Managing anxiety of something new
- Social support strategies
- Self-regulation for wellbeing
- Hope and excitement for the future
- The 5 sessions must be able to cover these topics and make sure students have been supported in developing these skills, but the creative activity can be specific to the facilitator's skills.
Delivery of sessions
- Sessions will be timetabled across June and July 2026, with blocks of 5 x 1.5hr weekly sessions at each of six different primary schools.
- Your planned sessions will need to be agreed with the creative engagement manager who will liaise with you to schedule the sessions at convenient times
- It will be your responsibility to get to the venue and deliver the planned session alongside the project assistant, but you need to be comfortable to set up and deliver the session without support from Lighthouse staff.
Reporting and evaluation
- This project will act as a pilot programme. Lighthouse will be evaluating the project and reporting back to the funder.
- It will be your responsibility to note attendance figures at the sessions, especially if there is a noticeable fluctuation. You will also be expected to report back to Lighthouse any specific stories of student development during the sessions to feed into the evaluation.
